Paris: The headline Ligue 1 clash between Lyon and Lille on Saturday night had an unexpected guest in the form of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The United coach was pictured on television channel Orange Sport taking his seat at Stade Gerland shortly before kick-off in the game between third-placed Lille and sixth-placed Lyon.
Reports suggested that he might be scouting Lille's Belgian winger Eden Hazard.
Last season's Ligue 1 Player of the Year, 21-year-old Hazard sparked a frenzy of interest earlier this year when he revealed that England would be his preferred destination when he leaves Lille in the summer.
However, it was not a happy first half for Hazard, whose side went in 2-1 down at the interval.
Television pictures cut to a shot of Ferguson yawning after Lisandro Lopez scored Lyon's second goal and Hazard was asked about the United manager's presence during a half-time interview.
"I didn't know he was here," he said. "Maybe he's tired!"
