Tim Southee took 4-52, Trent Boult 3-40 and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, playing his first Test at home, wrapped up the tail, taking 2-63 to help New Zealand dismiss West Indies for 213 in reply to Kiwis' first innings total of 609-9 declared.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul waged a lone battle nad made 76 in the tourists' first innings, which lasted only 62.1 overs.
West Indies battled to avoid a third consecutive innings defeat on Thursday, ending day three of the first Test against New Zealand on Thursday at 168-2, still 228 runs short of making the home side bat again. Kirk Edwards scored 59.
Kirk Edwards and Darren Bravo (in pic) steadied the innings, putting on 117 for the second wicket before the leg spin of Ish Sodhi trapped Edwards in front for 59. Bravo was not out 72 with Marlon Samuels on 17 at stumps.
