Former India player and Bengal captain Rohan Gavaskar announced his retirement from first-class cricket yesterday. Son of batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohan played 11 ODIs for India. Rohan, who played his first-class cricket for Bengal, scored 5073 runs in 75 matches at 51.24.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has stepped down from his position as captain of the Mumbai Ranji team in order to focus on his batting. Jaffer had captained Mumbai in the Ranji trophy over the past four seasons and under him, Mumbai emerged winners in 2008-09 and 2009-10. However, Mumbai failed to make the Ranji final this season, losing to Tamil Nadu in the semi-final.

The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) on Tuesday, felicitated its team for winning the Ranji trophy for the second consecutive time, by beating Tamil Nadu on basis of first-innings lead.

Rajasthan became only the fifth team to win the Ranji Trophy in successive seasons, as they beat Tamil Nadu on the first-innings lead in Chennai.
