London:Struggling with a groin injury, New Zealand's hard-hitting batsman Jesse Ryder had to be hospitalised after missing his team's match against South Africa in the ICC World Twenty20 Championship.
Ryder, who had to pull out of last night's match against South Africa at Lord's because of the nagging injury, was taken to a London hospital.
"Jesse is continuing to suffer serious discomfort and has been admitted to hospital overnight for observation and further tests," team manager Dave Currie said in the statement.
"We hope the picture will become clearer in the next 24 hours," he added.
New Zealand have been plagued with injuries in the tournament with skipper Daniel Vettori nursing a shoulder injury, which forced him to sit out of the two preliminary matches the side has played so far.
Middle-order batsman Ross Taylor is also being monitored after he strained his hamstring, while left-arm paceman James Franklin is likely to play in the next stage despite a knee problem.
