New Delhi:Virender Sehwag on Monday had cricketing experience of a different kind and the swashbuckling India opener was overwhelmed by the ambience at the capital's high-security Tihar jail here.
"I am overwhelmed by the atmosphere here. Today, I have first hand experience of how jail inmates spend their lives here," he said.
"After coming here my perception of a jail has changed. The inmates here roam freely and they play fantastic cricket," said Sehwag who was the chief guest in the final of a Twenty20 cricket tournament for jail inmates.
Asked what he learnt from his experience, Sehwag said he was overwhelmed to see inmates from all over the country and abroad playing cricket here.
"It is wonderful to see inmates playing cricket. I think even the refreshment we had was prepared by them," he said. On the performance of the inmates in the match, he said, "They played really well. It showed that they watched cricket on television. Even there were very few extras," said Sehwag who refused to take any question related to Indian cricket.
India discard Murli Kartik was grateful to jail authorities for inviting him.
"I did not know what a jail was all about. It is a wonderful atmosphere here and an eye opener for me. I want to thank the jail authorities for giving me the chance to mingle with the inmates," he said.
Delhi Ranji player Shikhar Dhawan too was there along with Sehwag and Kartik. The trio were introduced to all the inmates and they also distributed the prizes after the match.
