Mumbai:India on Wednesday announced their 15-member squad for the first two Tests against Australia. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly has been included in the squad.
The left-hander has, however, decided to call it a day at the end of the series.
The selection committee, headed by Krisnamachari Srikkanth, selected 15 players for the four-Test series starting in Bangalore on October 9.
Tamil Nadu batsman S Badrinath and legspinner Amit Mishra have been named in the squad. Both are uncapped players.
Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Pragyan Ojha, who figured in the Indian squad during the last Test series against Sri Lanka, were omitted from the team announced by new secretary S Srinivasan through a press release.
The previous selection committee had ignored Ganguly for the Irani Cup tie touted as a selection trial with Dilip Vengsarkar at the helm.
The 36-year-old Bengal stalwart, who staged a spectacular entry into Tests with a debut ton at Lord's in 1996, made a storming return to the five-day game in South Africa in late 2006 after losing his place earlier that year.
The classy left-hander amassed over 1100 runs with a career-best 239 against Pakistan in Bangalore in late 2007, at a fantastic average of 61.44 which compares very favourably with his career average of 41.74 in 109 Tests.
The opening match of the four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to be played in Bangalore from October 9-13 with the remaining matches to be held in Mohali, Delhi and Nagpur.
