Karachi:The deadlock over the administration of Pakistan Cricket Board is finally over with the sports ministry officially deciding to monitor the day-to-day PCB affairs until the appointment of a new Chairman by the President of the country.
The sports ministry has announced at the weekend that they had got a notification ratified by the law ministry allowing them to make a slight amendment in the PCB's constitution under which they could appoint an officer to monitor the day-to-day working of the Board in case the Chairman resigned, was sacked or expired.
The PCB media spokesman on Monday confirmed that they have received the notification, but refused to give out further details.
"The notification says if there is a long wait for the appointment of a new Chairman, the sports ministry can look after the Board affairs on temporary basis," a source in the PCB said.
The move by the sports ministry to get itself involved in the PCB affairs is seen as a big blow to the administrative and financial independence enjoyed so far by the richest sports body in the country.
The legal counsel of the PCB, Tafazzul Rizvi said he had not seen the notification as yet so he could not comment on it, but said in his knowledge any amendment in the Board's constitution can only be made by the chief patron, President Asif Ali Zardari.
"Once I look at the notification I can comment on it," Rizvi said.
