Former Sri Lankan captain Hasan Tilakaratne said that it was unfortunate to see the way the Indian team was struggling against Sri Lankan debutante spinner Ajantha Mendis.

Though Indian batsmen are strong in playing spin bowling but it is unfortunate that they could not face Mendis as he has lot of bowling varieties, he told reporters here on the sidelines of a programme of World Future League, a new cricketing platform for youngsters.

He said the Indian team was a very good side and will try their best to make a come back in the ongoing three Test series after being mauled by the hosts in the first Test.

Responding to queries on his sacking as National Cricket Team Manager for the Sri Lankan cricket, he said, "It's quite sad. I was invited to head cricket but the political reasons including the sports minister resulted in these developments."

Tillakaratne was recently appointed and then replaced as Sri Lanka's national cricket team manager for the Test and limited-overs home series against India.
