Bridgetown, Barbados:

West Indies captain Chris Gayle will miss the first Twenty20 international to be played in the Caribbean because of a groin injury, foregoing vital practice ahead of the $20 million winner-take-all match against England later in the year.

The 28-year-old allrounder missed the first two matches of the 2-0 test series loss to Australia and was still not 100 percent fit when he made his return in the just-concluded third test.

The West Indies face Australia at the Kensington Oval on Friday in the one-off Twenty20 international and have selected a 14-member squad containing most of the players who appeared in the closely contested test series.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, who led the side in the first two tests, is set to again take over from Gayle.

The squad has three uncapped players in batsmen Andre Fletcher, Williams Perkins and teenage fast bowler Kemar Roach.

Roach, 19, was included in the third Test squad but did not make the final XI. Fletcher and Perkins, both also capable wicketkeepers, were standouts in the first two Stanford 20/20 regional tournaments in 2006 and 2008.

The selectors also included Fletcher in a 14-man squad for the opening three limited-overs internationals against Australia.

Gayle has been named to lead that side.

Kieron Pollard, a big-hitting all-rounder from Trinidad and Tobago, also has been included in both squads.

A West Indies XI will host England in the first of five annual one-off Twenty20 internationals on Nov. 1 in Antigua, with billionaire businessman Allen Stanford offering prize money and expenses worth $100 million over the five years.

West Indies squads:
