Kolkata:
"We are confident. Cricketers are keen to play for their country again," Kirsten said on his arrival in the city on Friday ahead of the tour beginning on Sunday.
Apart from India and the hosts, Pakistan is the third nation taking part in the June 8 to 14 tri-series.
The Indian players would leave for the neighbouring nation from here on Sunday morning.
Asked whether the spectators could now hope to see 400 plus scores in an innings in 50-over Internationals, after teams broke the 200 barrier in the recent Indian Premier League Twenty20 tourney, the former South African batsman said IPL and 50 over matches were different ball games.
"There is a great difference of attitude in the two formats. So I think a 50 over match is always be a 50 over match," he said.
To another query, Kirsten said "IPL has shown there is no dearth of talent in India. I will be happy to work with them".
A test for youngsters
Kirsten said although experienced players like Sachin Tendulkar would be missed in the ODI tri-series but their absence has opened a window of opportunity for the younger lot drafted in to replace the old warhorses.
The Indian spin attack was short on experience, as it would be spearheaded by the 19-year old leggie Piyush Chawla, Kirsten conceded before reporters on the eve of the teams departure for the neighbouring nation.
"Experience is always necessary in the game. Not only Sachin but all the experienced pros play a significant role in the team," the former South African batsman replied when asked whether the presence of the veteran Mumbaikar would have been beneficial for the team.
However, he hastened to add that it was a great challenge for the youngsters in the team. "At some point of time, they do need to be tested. We will never come to know of their capabilities unless and until they are given opportunities."
