New Delhi:Yet again Lady Luck refused to smile on the Bangalore Royal Challengers as Delhi Daredevils beat them by 10 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. This defeat makes their chances of making it to the top six teams and advancing to the semi-finals very bleak. They are now placed at the bottom of the points table.
Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, came back hard after their defeat against Kings XI Punjab. They looked to attack from the outset and were relishing the home conditions and support of the crowd.
Royal Challengers after winning the toss, decided to put Daredevils to bat and they grabbed the invitation with both hands. Delhi batsmen dominated the opposition bowling from the start of their innings as their openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir smashed them all round the park.
Royal Challengers got the first sigh of relief when Ross Taylor ran out Virender Sehwag (24). But the joy didn't last long as the in-form Gautam Gambhir took charge of Delhi innings along with no. 3 batsman Shikhar Dhawan and whipped Royal bowlers with a string of boundaries.
Gambhir and Shikhar with their fifties took their side to a commanding position. Shikhar fell after making 50 runs. Gambhir, unlucky to miss out on his century, was at his best and made 86 runs with the help of 11 fours and one six.
Bangalore bowlers made a comeback in the death overs and picked four wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Shoaib Malik, Dinesh Karthik and Gautam Gambhir.
After posting a total of 191 runs on the board, Delhi bowlers were deadly with ball too. Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath did the maximum damage as he picked four crucial wickets of Praveen Kumar (6), Wasim Jaffer (10), Ross Taylor (29) and Rahul Dravid (38), and was declared as Man of the Match.
Bangalore were three down in the first three overs when skipper Rahul Dravid and Jaques Kallis came for their rescue. McGrath in his second spell sent off Dravid. Kallis, however, continued and slammed a half-century. At one point it seemed, he would take his side to victory but then Vettori struck and got him. It spelled doom as it was all over for Bangalore.
