The Indian team management has written a letter to Match Referee Jeff Crowe expressing their concern over the on-field behaviour of the Australians during the ongoing CB ODI tri-series. Our correspondent Anjali Doshi
has obtained a copy of the letter. Here's the text of the letter (verbatim):
Mr Jeff Crowe,
24th Feb, 2008
Sub: Behaviour of the Australian Players
This is to bring to your notice that the behavious of some of the Australian players in the CB Series is far from satisfactory. Even if we have tried to play in the spirit of the game but some of the players from the Australian side have made a few comments that has brough disharmony to the game. Here are following incidents where Indian players are subjected to abuses on the field which have been noticed by the on field umpires.
1. During the Adelaide game Mr Ricky POnting, Captain, Australia Team, used abusive words directed at Mr Harbhajan Singh.
2. During the Sydney game Mr Matthew Hayden was also found using provocative words directed at Mr Harbhajan Singh while he was bowling, who in turn reported the incidents to the umpires.
3. When Mr Symonds was dismissed by Ishant Sharma at Sydney, on his way back Symonds abused Ishant and Ishant also replied back. But Ishant's response to Symonds was a result of provocation from Symonds to start with.
Despite all these incidents we have no intent of lodging an official complaint with the ICC. We have always played in the spirit of the game and want the series to get over in the right spirit. We request you to consider above incidents and take up the matter with Cricket Australia for an improved on field behaviours from the Australian players.
Manager, Indian Team
