Mumbai:Even as that bunch of youngsters arrived in Australia, those they replace, including seniors like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly headed home with a slightly empty feeling.

They all played a role in India's historic win at Perth and the team's stellar performance down under, but seemingly, at least, to no financial reward.

Anil Kumble did something no Indian had ever done, take 600 Test wickets, a jumbo achievement no doubt for Anil Kumble. The BCCI has promised to felicitate him in an appropriate manner but for former greats that''s not enough.

Sunil Gavaskar who rated India's Test win in Perth as the greatest win of the last 40 years has suggested that the Board should reward the Test captain in the same way as they did Yuvraj Singh.

Sunil Gavaskar in his column wrote:

''The BCCI rewarded Yuvraj Singh for his six sixes with a cash award and a Porsche. Rudra Pratap Singh also got a Mercedes Benz from an individual. Anil Kumble's feat deserves a big car like a Bentley, apart from a cash award. For the BCCI, which is not short of a Rupee or two, that is not a problem at all."

Navjot Singh Sidhu who can take credit for giving Kumble his nickname of jumbo can also take credit for being the first to hit out at the Board over this issue.

"Yuvraj Singh scores six sixes in an over, I feel proud, the whole country feels proud. The BCCI offers him, three crores, five crores. Anil Kumble takes 600 wickets and they sit on their bums, doing nothing! What the hell! You can't be biased like this. You can't treat people who are heroes, who are you know, great ambassadors, you can't treat them like this! I mean you cannot have a bias because of age!" said Navjot Singh Sidhu, 51 Tests and 136 ODIs for India.

The BCCI may not actually be biased based on age maybe they just think that winning a 20-20 World Cup is more important than a test milestone or maybe they have been their usual disorganised self.

But now that they have got the suggestion, maybe they will be gracious enough to take corrective action.
