New Delhi:
But did you know that the 21-year-old is also big on one very impressive cricket stat this year, thats for strike rate.
Uthappa is a player with a fire in his belly, he has a hunger for runs, a hunger to win, and a he has the courage to take on the very best in the world.
The talismanic batsmen's match winning capability is what's behind his meteoric rise of his 20 one-day appearances.
He has helped India to 8 wins, averaging an impressive 58 in matches won.
But most of all is his extraordinary strike rate that sets him apart from the rest, in the year 2007.
He has the highest strike rate by an Indian, and he is number four in the world for the same time frame. In the 20-20 format too his strike rate is above 100.
He strikes the ball with power, and one of Uthappa's greatest assets is his mobility. Wherever he's asked to bat Uthappa has been successful.
He maintains a 100 plus strike rate in most positions from opening to number 7.
His ability to score quickly provides India with a heavy dose of firepower, that most important ingredient for limited overs success.
And it's this talent that's impressed Australian Captain Ricky Ponting, who has not once but on several occasions named Uthappas as the Indian youngster with most potential.
Uthappa maybe just 21 but he's been playing domestic cricket for close to 5 years, last season he was the top run scorer in the Ranji trophy and the only player to score 4 centuries making it impossible for the selectors to ignore him.
And while the selectors have started taking notice, Uthappa has always had the girls chasing after him, he's a true showman, who delivers with a punch, and enjoys himself so much, its hard not to break into a smile.
