Karachi:
"It's not a happy news for him, he'll be returning home," team spokesman Michael Owen-Smith said. "He'll be going back home on the first available flight because normally you need six-eight weeks to recover from such injuries," Owen-Smith added.
Morkel injured his left foot while bowling during the drawn three-day warm up match against a Patron's XI last Saturday.
Morkel made his test debut against India at Durban last December and took three wickets.
Smith said that a decision on Morkel's replacement will be taken by the selectors in South Africa.
South Africa's tour of Pakistan includes two test matches and five one-day internationals.
