Trent Bridge:
Indian captain Sourav Ganguly termed the present phase as a testing moment of his captaincy and said he would find out how good he is in the next few months. "I will find out how good a captain I am in the next four-five months," said Ganguly after his batsmen once again collapsed against a resurgent England side and lost the first game of the NatWest Challenge by seven wickets on Wednesday. "It's easy to captain the side when everything goes well like last two years. It has been a little rough in the last four-five games," he said. "We have to get together as a side. We would find out how good we are in coming months," the skipper added. 'No lack of effort' Ganguly said the poor performance of his side was not for want of effort, but somehow things were not clicking. "It's to get their mindset right. I know they are trying hard, I can see it in practice, in the gym, in training. It's just not going well," he said. Ganguly drew the example of England to illustrate his point how things could change in one-day cricket. "England struggled in the NatWest Trophy this summer against the West Indies and New Zealand. Now they've played well. This happens to sides. But we would have to pull our socks," he added. Sehwag's form Ganguly didn't commit himself on Virender Sehwag's poor form or whether the Delhi dasher would be retained as opener. "We want Sehwag to fire, we know when he does it would be a new game," Ganguly said. "But the decision on his opening would have to be made once this tournament is over and Sachin Tendulkar, hopefully, is back," he went on. Ganguly criticized his batsmen for failing to carry on and said this has been a failing, which has plagued the team in the last few games. England captain Michael Vaughan said he chose to bat first because he thought his side had shown in the summer they were good at chasing target. Indeed England won all their three Tests against New Zealand by chasing targets. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
