The Cricket Board today extended national coach John Wright's tenure till the end of 2004-05 season. Contracts for trainer Gregory King and physiotherapist Andrew Leipus were extended up to and including 2007 World Cup in the West Indies at the meeting of the Board's Working Committee here. The Working Committee also decided to turn down the request of Maharashtra cricketer Abhijit Kale to reduce the ban on him by a month. Kale was banned from all levels of cricket till December 31, 2004, for trying to bribe his way into the Indian team for the tour of Australia in 2003-04. The Committee also has decided to convene a Special General Meeting of the Board on September 12 in Chennai to consider the amendment of rules to facilitate the affiliation of new associations and the bring about some changes in tenure of office bearers. The SGM assumes significance because the Assam Cricket Association has moved a resolution seeking that current Board President Jagmohan Dalmiya be made Chief Patron when his tenure comes to an end next month.
