Chennai:
Dinesh Karthik, the new wicketkeeper in the Indian squad, returned to Chennai after a successful tour in Zimbabwe. The 19-year-old hasn't even played a game with the senior team yet, but he's already had his first brush with celebrity status. He was virtually mobbed by fans when he went to a college cricket ground after his return from the India A tour. "It's a tremendous feeling to be part of the Indian team," said Karthik. Dinesh may have learnt a lot from the likes of Syed Kirmani and Kiran More at the keepers' camp, but the 19-year-old's all time favourite is from Adam Gilchrist. "I admire Adam Gilchrist, the way he keeps and bats. I haven't copied anything from him though," he said. Selected as a backup for Rahul Dravid, it is still not clear if Dinesh will be donning the gloves or carrying drinks to the field. But the Chennai lad will be practicing hard over the next few weeks in the hope that he gets a look in behind the stumps.Topics mentioned in this article
