Hyderabad:
But it seems that ICL is a blessing in disguise for those who have joined the rebel league as all it seems is not well in the southern state.
Former Chairman of Selectors for Hyderabad, Vijay Mohan Raj, says he is not surprised that eight Ranji players have decided to desert the state team to join the Indian Cricket League.
The way Hyderabad cricket is run, he says, made it a sitting duck for ICL to poach.
"I feel the players have been handled very badly. There have been instances where we have gone into a match without a plan.
"The players do not know what to do. And they have been fired left, right and centre for not performing,'' said Vijay Mohan Raj, Former Chairman of Selectors, Hyderabad team.
That is a sentiment shared by the ICL-bound players. A couple of them told NDTV off-camera that money was not the sole factor.
They say most of the players, despite performing, felt insecure about their place in the team.
But the cricket Association has chosen to react aggressively, saying the eight players don't really matter much.
"There is no setback to Hyderabad cricket. We have plenty of youngsters,'' said D S Chalapathi, Joint Secretary, HCA.
This sounds strange considering those who have walked away include the team's captain Vinay, former captain Anirudh, former India under-19 captain Rayudu, wicketkeeper Khaleel and medium pacer Alfred Absolom, who had a fantastic season last Ranji Trophy, taking 30 wickets.
