Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble's life has hit a purple patch. After being judged the best bowler in the recent series in Pakistan, Kumble is back in Bangalore with his newborn son. And praise from the cricketing bible Wisden has been just the icing on the cake. Kumble was named among Wisden's list of world's 40 top cricketers. "It's something very special. Wisden has a long history behind, it is one of the leading book keepers of cricket. I think it's a nice feeling to be recognised. It's nice to be the only bowler to be recognised from the India squad," Anil Kumble told NDTV in Bangalore. Speaking on India's recent successful tour of Pakistan, Kumble said "victory had been eluding us for various reasons". Test wins on foreign soil have been a rare occasion for Indian cricket. In 1993-94, India beat Sri Lanka 1-0 under Mohd Azharuddin in a three-Test series. The next win came in 2000-01 against cricketing minnows Bangladesh. Recalling the defeat in Barbados Test in 1997, when India failed to score 120 to beat the West Indies, Kumble said it has been a case of 'so near, yet so far' on many occasions. But now the victory in Pakistan has been sweet. "It's a great sense of satisfaction when you win in Pakistan. The whole world was looking out to this series because this series was happening after 15 years," Kumble said. The leggie said it was unfortunate that doubts were being cast over India's bowling attack. "I think if we put runs on the board, we have the capability of getting 20 wickets which we have proved. "I think we have a very balanced attack. There were a couple of injuries to key members when we played in Pakistan," Kumble said. Kumble feels that the new crop of bowlers has strengthened the team. "Balaji and Irfan have strengthened the bowling attack and that gives a little more competition to the attack," Kumble said.
