Bangalore:
The world record breaking feat for most Test wickets by Sri Lankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has gladdened the heart of Anil Kumble for the reason that it has been achieved by a spinner. "It has been a great achievement for a bowler from Sri Lanka. He has been the mainstay for many years. It is good that a spinner has completed broken the world record," Kumble said. Off-spinner Muralitharan took two wickets for 27 in the second innings of first Test against Zimbabwe in Harare on Saturday to take his Test tally to 521, surpassing West Indies' fast bowler Courtney Walsh's 519 wickets. Aiming high "I am sure Muralitharan won't stop at this. He is probably aiming at 800 wickets," the Test veteran said. "At the end of the day, it is important that it is one of the spinners who achieved that," Kumble added. "I am happy for him. He is a good friend of mine, and I wish him all the best," he said. The 33-year-old leggie is the most successful spin bowler from India and he is just three wickets away from becoming only the second Indian after Kapil Dev (434) to claim 400 Test scalps.
