Lahore:He has taken 208 wickets in 49 Tests and was part of the Pakistan squad for the India series both for the one-dayers and the Tests. He did not play in any of the five one-day matches, but got a chance in the Multan Test where he finished with figures of 1 for 204. One of Pakistan's most successful spinners Saqlain Mushtaq, may have hit a slump but says that his frequent omissions from the squad has strengthened his resolve to stage a comeback and that he is adding more variety to his bowling arsenal so he can do just that. NDTV correspondent caught up with the talented Pakistani offspinner in Lahore. NDTV: What happened in the Multan Test, only two wickets for more than 200 runs? Was the pitch flat? Was Sehwag just too good or was your bowling lacking? Saqlain: The Multan pitch was a sporting one. A bit of hard work would have yielded more wickets. My own form wasn't very good. People say Sehwag played well, but he had quite a few lucky chances. He was dropped first when he was on 40. But that was his day. But I think Sachin Tendulkar played a much better innings. He showed his class in that game. NDTV: What has happened that you are not in the same form as in 1999? Saqlain: In 1999 I had played a lot of cricket before touring India. It is only when you play cricket consistently that you hit the right form. I just realised that in this whole year, I have played only three games, one ODI and two Tests, with a huge gap between each game. Without constant cricket, there can be no consistency, not if you play just three games in a year. NDTV: So then what are you going to do to come back into the team? Saqlain: I have been practicing continuously even though I am not in the Test team because I want to keep myself as involved with cricket as possible. Someone told me that when we shower affection on a child, we enjoy it, but the child may not. Similarly, everyone assumes that I am going through a rough time because of my bad patch. But that is not true. I am enjoying life. God willing, I will be in the team again, but if not, then I am still enjoying myself. My life has not come to an end.
