Kandy:
Sri Lanka are in command against the West Indies at the end of second day of the second Test match at Kandy. The visitors were bowled out for 146 with Chaminda Vaas taking six for 22. At the end of a rain-interrupted second day, the hosts were ahead by 148 runs with eight wickets still in hand. Surprise move Sri Lanka opened the bowling with Sanath Jayasuriya, a surprise move, which paid instant dividends as he dismissed overnight batsman Narsingh Deonarine for 40 in the first over of the day. Chaminda Vaas carried on from where he had left off on Friday, claiming two wickets in two overs, which left the visitors struggling at 101 for eight. The Lankans missed a chance to wrap up the innings as Rangana Herath dropped a difficult chance off Tino Best. Jayasuriya, preferred ahead of specialist off-spinner Herath, came in for some heavy punishment from Omari Banks. Best too seemed to enjoy himself en route to an unbeaten 26. Controversial dismissal Muttiah Muralitharan finally broke the stand, though in controversial circumstances with TV replays suggesting the ball may have missed the bat of Banks. Murali then wrapped up the proceedings, claiming Jermaine Lawson as the West Indians were dismissed for 148 two runs behind the hosts. The Lankan openers started in one-day mode. Jayasuriya hammered three consecutive boundaries off Jermaine Lawson as the hosts reached 50 in quick time. Good show Darren Powell continued his good show from the first innings, sending Lankan skipper Marvan Atapattu back to the pavilion Jayasurya didn't last long either as the hosts lost their second wicket in a space of two runs with the scoreboard reading 57 for two. The West Indians seemed to be right back in the game at this stage, but Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene steered the Lankan ship out of troubled waters taking the score to 122 for two at tea. The duo added 24 runs more before rain ended the second day's play early with almost 29 overs still to be bowled.Topics mentioned in this article
