Ishant Sharma records best Test figures by an Indian pacer in New Zealand

Ishant Sharma's performance is the best by an Indian speedster in a Test match in New Zealand, eclipsing Zaheer Khan's five for 29 at Hamilton in December 2002.

Ishant Sharma's figures of 6 for 134 saw New Zealand bowled out for 503. This earned him the best figures by an Indian pacer in Tests in New Zealand. Here are some other statistical highlights from Day 2 of the first Test between New Zealand and India in Auckland:

# New Zealand (503) have recorded their second highest total at Eden Park, Auckland, next only to the 595 vs South Africa in March 2004. (Scorecard)

# New Zealand's aforesaid total is their fourth highest vs India in Tests - the highest being 630 for six wickets declared at Mohali in October 2003. (Day 2 report)

# Brendon McCullum (224 off 307 balls) has posted his second double hundred in Tests - his first being 225 off 308 balls at Hyderabad in November 2010. (Highlights)

# McCullum is the first New Zealand batsman to register two double hundreds vs India in Tests. Three other batsmen have recorded a double hundred each vs India - Graham Dowling (239 at Christchurch in February 1968), Bert Sutcliffe (230 not out at Delhi in December 1955 and Jesse Ryder (201 at Napier in March 2009). # McCullum is the first New Zealand batsman to record a double hundred at Eden Park, Auckland. Overall, he is the sixth batsman to hit a double hundred at this venue, joining Wally Hammond (England), Keith Fletcher (England), Gordon Greenidge (West Indies), Javed Miandad (Pakistan) and Daryll Cullinan (South Africa).

# McCullum is the second New Zealand captain to post a double century vs India - the first being Graham Dowling - 239 at Christchurch in February 1968.

# Ten double hundreds have been recorded by captains against India in Tests - the only one to make two being Michael Clarke (Australia) - both in the same series. Apart from McCullum, Dowling and Clarke, the other six being Australia's Don Bradman and Greg Chappell, England's Graham Gooch, West Indian Carl Hooper and Clive Lloyd and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara.

# McCullum is the only one to post a double hundred as captain at Eden Park, Auckland - the previous highest being Mohammad Azharuddin's 192 for India in February 1990. For New Zealand, the previous highest as a batsman at this venue being Ian Smith's 173 vs India in February 1990.

# McCullum is one of the four batsmen to have registered two double hundreds for New Zealand in Tests, joining Stephen Fleming (three), Matthew Sinclair and Glenn Turner.

# Corey Anderson (77) has posted his second highest score in Tests, next only to the 116 vs Bangladesh at Dhaka in October 2013.

# Ishant Sharma (6/134) has produced the third best bowling figures in an innings for India at Eden Park. Erapalli Prasanna had taken 8 for 76 and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar - 6 for 94 - both in January 1976. Ravi Shastri is the only other Indian bowler to take five wickets in an innings at this venue - 5 for 125 in March 1981.

# Ishant's figures are his second best in Tests - the best being 6 for 55 vs West Indies at Bridgetown in June 2011. Overall, he has bagged five wickets or more in an innings four times in Tests. (Read)

# After 19 Tests, Ishant has captured five wickets or more in an innings.

# Ishant was also the last Indian speedster to bag six wickets in an innings away from home in a Test match - 6 for 55 vs West Indies at Bridgetown in June/July 2011.

# Shikhar Dhawan has recorded his first duck in Tests. Since posting a hundred on Test debut (187 vs Australia at Mohali in March last year), he is without a fifty in seven innings.

# Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 67 is his highest score away from home in Tests - his third highest overall, next only to the two hundreds in his first two innings in Tests - 177 vs West Indies at Kolkata and 111 not out at Mumbai in November 2013.

# McCullum and Anderson were involved in a stand of 133 - New Zealand's highest fifth-wicket partnership vs India at Auckland.

# For the third time in a Test innings for New Zealand, century partnerships have been recorded for the fourth and fifth wickets - the first two instances being against India - Christchurch in 1967-68 and Napier in 2008-09.

# For the eighth time in a Test innings, India's first three wickets fell for a score of ten or less in their first innings - the only previous instance vs New Zealand was in the 1999-00 Mohali Test.
