Kings XI Punjab on Thursday, named former Indian and Railways all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as their assistant coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Bangar retired from first-class cricket in January 2013 and has coached the India A team. Bangar, a dependable all-rounder during his heydays, played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India. He has a Test century and 14 international wickets (Tests and ODIs).
Commenting on his appointment, Kings XI Punjab said: "Given his vast experience as a former player and his coaching stints over the years with one other franchise, NCA and India A, we are certain that he will add immense value to the team. We wish him all the best for the upcoming IPL Season 7."
Bangar said: "It is a pleasure to be associated with Kings XI Punjab and I would like to thank them for giving me an opportunity to step in as their assistant coach. It will be interesting to have a new team this year and a great challenge and opportunity to train some of the young and inspiring cricketers."
Kings XI Punjab will be one the eight teams in IPL 2014. The team is held and promoted by a consortium, which includes leading Indian actress Preity Zinta, industrialists Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Karan Paul and other investors.
