Chennai:
Voicing support for Saurav Ganguly, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has said that one bad series was not enough for a player to be sidelined. "It is unfortunate that when a player is down, he is pushed further down. All cricketers go through such a stage," he said. Admitting that Indian cricket is headed in the right direction, he was still cautious of the methods employed by coach Greg Chappell. "If Greg Chappell has a problem with the attitude of certain players then he should fix it himself. What are coaches for?" he added. Akram also offered his support to India's forgotten left arm pacer Zaheer Khan saying there was a lot of cricket left in the man from Shrirampur. "Zaheer deserves to be in the Indian team as he is a great bowler and has a lot of experience. You can do well in India without him, but what will you do when you travel overseas." Close series Commenting on the Test series and one-dayers between Pakistan and India slated to begin next month, he said it would be a close affair. "India-Pakistan matches will be a close series. No matter who wins or loses, it will be a close series," the former left-arm fast bowler said. Asked about the possibility of him coaching the Indian team, he said, "It really doesn't matter which nation you coach. I got tips from the great Kapil Dev so I would like to give them back to the cricketing world". On the decision taken by the BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board to play a series once in two years, he said it was a good idea.(With PTI inputs)
