Mumbai:
The South African cricket squad arrived in Mumbai early this morning ahead of their five-match one-day series against India beginning from November 16 in Hyderabad. Led by captain Graeme Smith, the Proteas are currently ranked second in the LG ICC One-Day rankings, thanks to their 4-0 series win against New Zealand a week back. Smith and his boys are confident of having a productive series if they adapt quickly and effectively to the conditions. But the 15-man squad is without its star and experienced players Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje. New opportunity The two chose not to tour the sub-continent after the Delhi Police failed to give them a guarantee that they would not be prosecuted for their alleged involvement in the match fixing scandal. The South African Squad has stabilised considerably in the past one year. The team is still hoping that their absence means an opportunity for them to discover new talent. But experience or no experience, the South Africans are hoping to concentrate on their own strategy and team composition and to maintain the element of surprise and not to worry about the opposition. Playing a confident Indian team at home is not an easy task but the South Africans hope not to repeat their past mistakes and become the first South African team to win a series against the Men in Blue in India.Topics mentioned in this article
