Bangalore:  Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan's Twenty20 captain, was the latest international to sign up for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which will take place between July 29 and August 26 across the Caribbean.

Hafeez, the 32 year-old all-rounder, has a career strike-rate of 117.38 and is the only Pakistan player to have scored more than 1000 runs in T20Is.

Hafeez joined Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist, the former Australia cricketers, Ross Taylor, the former New Zealand captain, alongside six West Indian stars - Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Marlon Samuels - as the big names in the competition.

In the recently concluded tour of South Africa, Hafeez led Pakistan to a T20 series win when he blitzed the South African bowling attack, scoring a 51-ball 86, his highest score in the T20Is, including nine fours and four sixes, before returning 3-25 with the ball.

With a career strike-rate of 117.38 and a bowling economy rate of 6.31, Hafeez is ranked second in the ICC rankings for all-rounders in T20.

"The World T20 in the Caribbean allowed me to experience playing T20 in the Caribbean and I am looking forward to playing there once again," said Hafeez. "The people in the West Indies love their cricket and I am sure the fans will get behind their teams. I also hope that cricket fans back in Pakistan and around the world will follow me during this first CPL season, and join in the fun."

Last month, Hafeez led Lahore Lions to the semi-finals of Pakistan's domestic T20 tournament where they lost out to eventual champions Faisalabad Wolves.
