London:
From being labelled the unworthy Test-playing cricket team in the world, the Bangladesh team has made a remarkable transformation, beating world champions Australia. Captain Habibul Bashar and his team realise that it was a highly improbable victory, but are still eagerly awaiting another chance to play the Australians on Saturday. Quite understandably, even a subsequent loss to England has not brought the team down from its high. "Well, they are world champions, they are the number one team and winning, beating the number one team is definitely, probably, the most marvellous thing in the world," said Bashar. Silencing critics The victory seems to have silenced their long-standing critics, who have repeatedly asserted that Bangladesh's test-status is thoroughly undeserved. But the win at Sophia Gardens has meant financial rewards for the players and a big boost to the game in the country. "Well it means a lot to Bangladesh. Every time we are winning matches it is a victory for Bangladesh. I mean cricket is the number one game in Bangladesh. No matter who we play, no matter where we play everyone is watching and every time we win a game it is a victory for Bangladesh," added Bashar. Big game But the captain should know that his young tigers will face another bunch of wounded ones on Saturday. Australia are back with a bang, re-asserting their authority with a 57-run win against England on Thursday. Their pride dented badly during their last encounter, the Aussies are waiting to put the Bangladeshis in their place, and show them who's boss.Topics mentioned in this article
