The Rohinton Baria Inter-University Champions Jain University take on VBS University from Jaunpur in the second clash of the Toyota University Cricket Championship, on Tuesday in what may well be seen as a David vs Goliath battle.
While Jain University - known as Southern Champs in TUCC - have stellar players who showcased their superb form to beat Mumbai University en route to the Inter-University trophy, the team from Jaunpur - Eastern Eagles - comprises of players who are determined to make a mark for themselves at this level. VBS University crashed out of the Rohinton Baria Trophy at the quarter-final stage and have since been itching to get back on winning ways.
Led by Vijendra Singh, VBS University is a team which prides in overbearing on the opposition through the collective efforts of all players. In fact, even in their loss against Jiwaji University in the quarter-final, the margin of just 15 showed that the team fought till the end. With players like Vijendra and all-rounder Gulab Nishad (36 runs and 2 wickets vs Jiwaji), this team can bring down their rivals from bigger cities with poise and ease that their rivals may never suspect them of possessing.
Jain University though are the champions and underestimating their opponents has hardly ever been part of their gameplan.
Samarth R is the team's most recognised player and was adjudged man of the series at the end of the Inter University tournament. His batting and bowling has the reputation of leaving opposing teams in tatters but this 20-year-old however will admit that cricket is a team sport and that his fellow-players can rise to the occasion, when required of them.
The contest then between Jain and VBS is a contest of champions against potential giant-killers which can send sparks flying as young-bloods collide against each other.
