The Madras University cricket team will be one of the 8 contenders in the upcoming Toyota University Cricket Championship that begins from February 23. It is one with big aspirations from humble beginnings. They lost in the Quarter-finals of the Rohinton Baria Trophy but they are one determined bunch who are looking to make it big on the cricket stage.
And why not? Most of these boys are from rural backgrounds and want to use cricket as a vehicle to success. As skipper Avaikkarasal points it out it has been a uphill struggle for the boys to get where they are. The sacrifices paid dividends as Madras emerged South Zone champions.
So one cannot take this group of cricketers lightly. They take nothing for granted and for them this tournament is the stepping stone for higher glory in the game. Despite where most of them come from there is a positive attitude that radiates throughout the team. Knowing what they have had to endure to get this far the boys from Madras University are expected to put up a fight as they look to emerge as the new stars in Indian cricket.
