Bangalore: Following their commanding displays at Trent Bridge, Tim Bresnan, the England all-rounder, and Marlon Samuels, the West Indies batsman, rose to career-best positions in the latest ICC rankings.
A match haul of 8 for 41, along with a handy 39, in England’s series winning nine-wicket victory over the West Indies saw Bresnan claim the man-of-the-match award. The paceman catapulted ten places to 15th in the Test bowlers’ rankings. Bresnan also climbed to eighth in the ICC’s all-rounders’ list.
Bresnan’s performances only marginally shadowed that of Samuels’s. Samuels jumped 20 spots to lie 35th by the end of the Test following scores of 117 and 76 in Nottingham.
Despite modest returns of 46 and 11, Shivnarine Chanderpaul continued to remain the top Test batsman. Andrew Strauss, the England captain, moved up four spots to 23rd following his 21st career century. It helped set up his team’s series victory and ensured that England remain on top of the team rankings.
