New Delhi: With selection row relating to veterans like Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan hounding the West Indies cricket board in the recent past, selector Courtney Brown clarified the position of his board which according to him, is looking to strike the right balance.
In an interview on the web-site of the International Cricket Council, Brown clarified that his board has not closed doors to any player. "We are not saying we will have a young team all the time but we are looking for a side with the right combination," he said.
The interview comes shortly after Chanderpaul had alleged that the board had asked him to call it quits, creating an uproar with some former players asking for top-officials to resign. Brown though was categorical that the West Indies squad must be one that exposes young blood. "We have to look at a team that has players we can move forward with. All the guys have a role to play in that pathway. I do not think you can just throw out players out of the door. The door is wide open," he said.
West Indies have struggled in the on-going tournament against Pakistan and will take on a touring India in a series beginning June 4.
