Karachi:
England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke, who heads the ICC special task force on Pakistan cricket, had on Tuesday said that there are plans for an ICC World XI to play in Pakistan, which has not hosted international cricket since the Lahore terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in March last year.
"Clarke has displayed a deep understanding of the passion of Pakistani cricket fans and the need to help the PCB at this crucial time," Butt said.
"It is indeed heartening to note that the cricket fraternity is working on revival of cricket in Pakistan. I am very grateful to Giles Clarke who is a dear friend of Pakistan for pursuing our case and working tirelessly in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan," added Butt.
Clarke, in an interview to the 'Wisden Cricketers' magazine, had said that return of cricket to Pakistan would be a historic moment as and when it happens.
"It is likely that an ICC World Eleven comprising of players from various countries would tour the country to play matches in its major cities. There are security challenges in Pakistan but the terrorists cannot be allowed to win and it would be a historic moment when the World Eleven tours Pakistan," Clarke had said.
