Karachi:
Sources in the team said that although he would be taken to a specialist on Tuesday, initial medical examination has confirmed that Zulqarnain required at least a month's rest for the injury to heal.
"He is likely to be flown back home and the tour selection committee is pondering over asking for another wicketkeeper to be flown in to join the team in England," one source said.
He said though Kamran Akmal was present in the team but the management had worries over him as not only was he struggling for form but he had also hurt his eye during a practice session.
"His eye is swollen and he is getting treatment for it. It is not a serious problem but obviously the tour management does not want to take any chances," the source said.
Zulqarnain had replaced Kamran for the second Test against England at Edgbaston as the vice-captain was struggling for form.
Zulqarnain didn't have an impressive debut behind the stumps but excelled as a batsman scoring a fighting 88 in the second innings to help Pakistan avoid an innings defeat.
"It is a stroke of luck for Kamran as Zulqarnain after his innings was certain to play the third Test as well," the source said.
Pakistan has started facing injury problems on the tour after four back-to-back Tests against Australia and England. Pacer Umar Gul was among the first to be ruled out of the Test series and is also doubtful for the one-day series next month because of a hamstring injury.
"The situation is that given Kamran's erratic form, the tour management and selectors will most likely like to have another reserve keeper apparently Sarfraz Ahmed for the remaining matches," the source stated.
