Kolkata:Back in contention for an IPL semi-final berth after their stupendous win over Deccan Chargers on Thursday night, Kolkata Knight Riders got a further boost on Friday with explosive New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum joining the ranks.
The Knight Riders, who zoomed to fifth place after their win over Deccan Chargers, thus have a full strength squad at their disposal with six more matches remaining.
It is yet to be seen if the hard-hitting Kiwi opener is included in their next match which is against the bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
In case he is drafted in, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews might have to sit out, with Chris Gayle, David Hussey and Shane Bond completing the foreigners' slots.
McCullum shot into limelight with his explosive 158 not out against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the inaugural IPL in 2008 which still remains the highest score in Twenty20.
Busy with New Zealand's home series against Australia, McCullum was not available for the Kolkata franchise for the eight matches so far.
