Here are the statistical highlights of the third day's play between India and South Africa in the first Test in Nagpur.

  • India (223) have recorded their lowest completed innings total at VCAS, surpassing the 295 in the second innings against Australia in the only prevous Test played at this venue.

  • From 221 for four to 233 all-out - India's worst collapse when they lost six wickets for just twelve runs against South Africa.

  • Sehwag's 18th Test hundred is his fourth against South Africa, equalling Mohammad Azharuddin's tally - the most in India-South Africa Tests.

  • Sehwag in his last five Tests has posted three hundreds - 131 against Sri Lanka at Kanpur and 293 at Mumbai and 109 against South Africa at Nagpur. In between, he had played two Tests against Bangladesh without a hundred.

  • Sehwag and Badrinath have produced a stand of 136 - India's highest for the fourth wicket against South Africa in India, surpassing the 96 between Dravid and Ganguly at Kanpur in November 2004.

  • Sehwag's runs' tally of 283 (ave.70.75) in four innings is the highest by any batsman at VCAS, Jamtha. This is how he has scored - 66 & 92 against Australia in 2008-09 followed by 109 & 16 against South Africa.

  • Sehwag became the first to register three consecutive innings of fifty-plus at VCAS

  • Sehwag became the second Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar (109 against Australia) to post a hundred at VCAS, Jamatha

  • Sehwag has posted 18 centuries in Tests - 10 in India and eight overseas.

  • Badrinath (56) has become the 21st Indian to register a half-century in debut innings in Tests.

  • Dale Steyn (16.4-6-51-7) has recorded his career-best bowling figures in Tests, surpassing the 6 for 49 against New Zealand at Centurion in 2007-08.

  • Apart from the above two instances, the only other occasion when he bagged six wickets in an innings is - 6 for 72 against West Indies at Durban in January 2008.

  • Steyn's outstanding performance is the second best in India-South Africa Tests - the best being Lance Klusener's 8 for 64 at Kolkata in 1996-97.

  • Besides Klusener and Steyn, the only other to perform the feat for South Africa is Allan Donald - 7 for 84 in the 1992-93 Port Elizabeth Test.

  • For India, the only one to take seven wickets in an innings against South Africa is Harbhajan Singh - 7 for 87 at Kolkata in 2004-05.

  • Steyn's previous best figures in an overseas Test were the 5 for 23 against India at Ahmedabad in April 2008..

  • Steyn's 13th five-wicket haul in Tests is his second against India.

  • Steyn has taken seven five-wicket hauls in South Africa and six on foreign soil.

  • Steyn's figures are now the second best at VCAS, Jamtha, next only to Australia's Jason Krejza - 8 for 215 in 2008-09. With four for 143 in the second innings, he became the only spinner to bag twelve wickets in a Test match against India in India.

  • A follow-on has been enforced by any team for the first time in India-South Africa series.
