Ranchi:Showering praise on Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Governor K Sankaranarayanan on Saturday said the Team India captain had put Jharkhand on top of world cricket map with his stupendous performances.
"No account of our sporting heroes will be complete without the mention of the remarkable and superlative achievements of Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has put Ranchi and Jharkhand at the very top of the cricketing map of the world," the Governor said after inaugurating Birsa Munda Stadium here.
Promising that his administration was committed to encourage sports and culture in a befitting manner, the Governor said the 34th National Games scheduled in November this year would reflect the state's determination to preserve its distinguished sporting landscape in the country.
He said the government was paying Rs 16 lakh to various sporting personalities for their achievements.
"Stipend between Rs 500 and Rs 6000 are being given to players every month according to their achievements to boost their morale and inspire them for higher goals," he added.
