An embarrassed Shoaib Akhtar mulled suing the Pakistan team management for attributing his omission from the World Twenty20 squad to a genital infection, while it was actually a skin irritation.

"I had a skin infection and without consulting my own doctor they gave statements and reports that made it seem that I had some other serious medical condition," Shoaib told reporters.

The 33-year-old temperamental speedster was dropped from the Pakistan Twenty20 squad one week before its departure to England in late May after a medical panel of the Pakistan Cricket Board said he needed rest to recover from a genital infection.

"A wrong impression was given about my injury by the team management and it hurt me a lot. It was nothing serious, just a skin infection for which I had undergone treatment," Shoaib said.

Shoaib said he listened to PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt's advice and desisted from taking legal action against the team think-tank.

"I listened to Ejaz Butt and dropped the idea of suing the team management because Butt is a player-friendly administrator," he said.

The fast bowler is likely to run into more trouble with the establishment after appearing on a television talk show in which he apparently made some strong comments.

Shoaib, however, denied violating his central contract with the board and said, "I made some general comments, nothing more."

Shoaib claimed that he was fully fit and could have even played the Test series in Sri Lanka. "I don't know why they didn't pick me. No one asked me about my fitness," he added.

Shoaib said no one had asked him to join the team in Sri Lanka for the one-day series either.

"I know I could have contributed to the team with my bowling even in the Tests. But I cannot force anyone to select me," he added.
