Bengaluru:Virender Sehwag was the ICC Test Player of the year 2010. The cricketer spoke exclusively to NDTV after winning the award. Here is the transcript.
NDTV: I have the test cricketer of the year and its none other than Virender Sehwag. Veeru Congratulations! What a fantastic achievement. How are you feeling since this is your first ICC award?
Virender Sehwag: Thank you very much. I'm feeling really proud to get this award. N specially last time Gautam Gambhir got it and this time myself. So really happy for this.
NDTV: And Veeru you were speaking right now to Ravi Shastri and you said about how after you were dropped in 2007 you made a vow that when you come back you'll make a lot of runs. It's been a fantastic two years, ever since you started out in Perth in Jan 2008 followed up with that century in Adelaide, then a triple century, you almost made another triple century. It's really been a wonderful two years.
Virender Sehwag: Yes, when I got dropped in 2007, my family, especially Aarti and my mom they really supported me, they motivated me and said that still you have a couple of years so you work hard and you will get another chance. So, I promised them that if I get another chance, I will try to score as many runs as I can and try to win a couple of matches for my country. And after that I think I never looked back. I scored in 2008 also, 2009 and 2010 also. All three years were good for me and I hope that the coming year will also be good for me.
NDTV: Are you going to show that award to Sachin and say I managed to beat the competition and get this award?
Virender Sehwag: No, not at all because he is my role model Because of him I'm sitting here and I got this award. So, full praise for Sachin Tendulkar and you never know, maybe he will get the player of the year award so he can tease me.
