Kumar Sangakkara came to the party with an unbeaten 61 from 46 balls.
Skipper Lahiru Thirimanne was not to be left behind as he thrashed 54 from 39 to take Kandurata to 168/3.
Shikhar Dhawan responded in kind with a brisk 71 off 53 balls.
Parthiv Patel hit a fluent 52 as the opening stand of 121 took the game away from Kandurata. Hyderabad went on to win by 8 wickets with 9 balls remaining.
