London:Ricky Hatton has said that he and Floyd Mayweather Jr have agreed to face other in Las Vegas on December 8.
His father, Ray Hatton, said on Wednesday both sides had signed contracts for the fight, expected to be held at the MGM Grand. He said details would be announced soon by US promoter Golden Boy Promotions.
"The contract provided what we wanted, and we are officially signed up. Now we are just waiting for the date and venue to be made official.
"Our lawyers have instructed us that the Mayweather camp have also signed at their end. We are delighted with the deal. Ricky's purse is higher than anything he has previous earned," said Ray Hatton.
Unbeaten in 43 bouts, Hatton said the fight would give him an opportunity to improve his recognition.
"To win the world title is one thing, but to be known as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet in any weight division would be something else and I just can't wait," he said..
"I am fighting a five-weight world champion and the best fighter in the world. He's just come off a win over another modern day legend in (Oscar) De La Hoya. It can't get any bigger than that."
Hatton's trainer, Billy Graham, also said the fight was on. "I've said for a long time I think Ricky is the best fighter, pound-for-pound, to ever come out of Great Britain," he said. "When he beats Mayweather, everyone will agree with me."
Hatton, who won the 63-kilogram IBO light welterweight title with a knockout victory over Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas on June 23, is 43-0, with 31 knockouts. Mayweather is 38-0, with 24 KOs.
Hatton is expected to move up in weight to meet Mayweather, who won the 70-kilogram WBC super welterweight title against De La Hoya in May.
