New Delhi: The Indian cricket fraternity has reacted favourably to Greg Chappell's appointment as the new Indian coach. A majority of former cricketers and those associated with the game believe that the former Australian captain was the perfect choice. With India having made steady progress under John Wright, Greg Chappell's responsibility will be to take India to the next level and perhaps dethrone the Aussies from their invincible status. Just half an hour after the official announcement, India's newly appointed cricket coach, Greg Chappell was already playing his role to perfection. Out-of-the-box thinking Finally Chappell's greater stature within the game and his ability to out think the opponent, helped swing it his way. "He is a great student of the game and a legendary batsman," said Raj Singh Dungarpur, former President, BCCI. "Coach should be some one who you should look upto. He is the best coach India can have," he added. Gregory Stephen Chappell being named as the new coach means fellow Australian Tom Moody is likely to join the Sri Lankan team while Desmond Haynes returns empty handed to the Caribbean. The only Indian to be short-listed for the post, Mohinder Amarnath who had the longest interview with the selection committee took the decision in his stride. "I 'm not disappointed. I wish him all the luck and wish the Indian cricket all the luck as well," Amarnath said. Impeccable credentials That he has impeccable cricketing credentials is not disputed. His coaching methods have proved just as effective as his playing style. His advocacy of positive thinking is just as famous as his reputation as a motivator. "Having played with Greg, he is a great taskmaster. He is a great source of inspiration to the Aussie team," felt Syed Kirmani, former wicket keeper. In 2000, Greg Chappell lost out to John Wight because of his aggressive attitude. But this time around, he being a hard taskmaster and India going through a bad patch, the former Australian Captain was the perfect choice to replace John Wright as India's next cricket coach.
