Seoul:Indian mixed doubles pair of V Diju and Jwala Gutta's giant killing spree in the Yonex Korea Super Series badminton ended in the semifinals as they lost 19-21, 20-22 to fourth seeded Thai duo of Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul in a thrilling match here on Saturday.
The unseeded Indian duo, who upset the top and eighth seeds en route the last four, stretched the Thais to the limit and were unlucky not to have taken the match to the decider.
Diju and Gutta made a late fightback but squandered two game-points in the second game to lose the 29-minute tie of the top-flight tournament.
In the first game, the Thais were always in the front with the Indians playing a catch-up game though the difference in score was never more than three points.
After conceding an early lead, the Indian duo caught up their opponents at 7-7 and then at 18-18 before losing the first game.
The Indians could not turn the heat on their opponents in the second game also with the Thai pair exhibiting superior net play and smashes.
Gutta and Jwala conceded a five-point deficit at 6-11 and then at 10-15 in the second game. But from there, the Indians fought back by winning six straight points to make it 16-15 and then 20-18.
The Indians, however, allowed the Thais to take four straight points to win the second game after a deuce wrap up the match.
Indian shuttlers in the singles event had failed to get past the second round.
