The Indian challenge at the German Open Badminton championship in Mulheim an der Ruhr has come to a tame end. All the three shuttlers in the second round were ousted by their higher ranked opponents. Former national champion Chetan Anand stretched eighth seed Dicky Palyama of The Netherlands in the first game but ended up on the losing side 14-17 5-15. Tenth seed Anders Boesen of Denmark made light of the challenge of Nikhil Kanetkar 15-8 15-9 to advance to the quarterfinals, according to information received here. In the women's section, national champion Aparna Popat was found wanting against sixth seed Jae Youn Jun of Korea and went down 5-11 1-11 to bring curtains down on the Indian challenge. Former All England champion Pullela Gopichand, reigning national champion Anup Sridhar, Arvind Bhat and Abhinn Shyam Gupta were made to bite the dust in the first round itself.
