After firing a bronze medal for India at the Asian Games on Tuesday, shooting champion Abhinav Bindra clarified his 'retirement' plans, with his eyes still set on Rio Olympics in 2016. (Asian Games Day 4 Live Blog | Tally | Schedule)
"I've been a shooter for 20 years of my life. I want to be a hobby shooter for a bit. If I am shooting well enough and at a level good enough to compete at World Cups, I will surely go for trials and compete. If I qualify for Rio, of course I will compete," Bindra told NDTV.
This comes a day after Bindra took to social media to announce his retirement from competitive shooting.
Tomorrow will mark the end of my professional shooting life ! I will however still shoot , compete as a hobby shooter training twice a week.— Abhinav Bindra (@Abhinav_Bindra) September 22, 2014
Bindra had also tweeted saying he was still hoping to feature in the Rio Olympics in 2016.
And yes I will still try to be at rio and my bio is now most appropriate ! Great times and am sure there will be a few more !— Abhinav Bindra (@Abhinav_Bindra) September 22, 2014
